Arne Vodder
Arne Vodder (1926 – 2009) was a Danish architect and designer who is considered one of the most influential Scandinavian furniture designers.
Arne Vodder created timeless and functional furniture with a distinctive attention to detail, color and materials. His quiet demeanor and humility contributed to him not achieving the same fame in his lifetime as his mentor and friend Finn Juhl.
In recent years, both the Danish and international furniture scene have rediscovered his designs, which are characterized by a unique blend of simplicity and elegance. Vodder trained as a carpenter and architect, working particularly with organic forms and exclusive woods such as rosewood and teak.
Arne Vodder is best known for his sideboards from the 1950s and 60s, characterized by handle-free doors and a fine balance between function and aesthetics. He believed that the simple and functional should also be beautiful, which is reflected in his furniture that is still produced today. Vodder’s furniture designs have gained international recognition and adorn the White House and the Vatican, among others. His legacy lives on through the furniture that is still appreciated worldwide and produced with pride at Snedkergaarden.
